Lu Bu Guide — Best Build, Combos & Playstyle

Core Passive: Bloodthirsty Ancestry
Enchants his weapon when it hits an enemy during Skill 1 or Ultimate. While enchanted, Basic Attacks and Skills deal additional true damage and recover his Health.

Signature Ultimate: Tremble, Mortals
Leaps to the target location, launching and damaging enemies within range upon landing, then forming a ring of slaughter.
While inside the ring, he gains increased Physical and Magical Defense, while enemies suffer damage and slow.

TL;DR Lu Bu: A clash-lane fighter/tank. Survive lane phase — don't die 1v1. After level 4, look for TP plays or roam mid. In teamfights, your job is to engage or peel, not to chase kills.

Skill 1: Impaling Thrust
Performs a sweep attack on the target area. Restores a certain amount of Health with each enemy hero hit. Failing to hit a hero will cause his enhancement to disappear.

Skill 2: Souleater
Slows and damages enemies in the target area and gains a shield for each enemy hit (up to 3 stacks). The shield value is converted to Health over time.

Ultimate: Tremble, Mortals

Skill Priority: Skill 2 → Skill 1 → Tremble, Mortals (max Skill 2 first)
Max primary utility/damage skill first, then Impaling Thrust, and Tremble, Mortals on cooldown.

Practical Tips:
• Lane phase goal: survive and farm. You don't need solo kills to win. If the enemy jungler is MIA, play safe.
• Before engaging a teamfight, check if your team can follow up. Diving in alone = feeding, no matter how tanky you are.
• Build adaptively. Enemy has heavy magic damage → magic resist. Heavy physical → armor. One defensive item choice wins or loses teamfights.

Slot 1: Destiny (PATK +75, ASPD +15%, HP +500
Negates fatal damage)

Slot 2: Blood Rage (PATK +75, HP +900
Trades HP for shield)

Slot 3: Overlord's Might (PATK +150, CDR +5%
High-damage attack)

Slot 4: Demonsbane (PATK +90, MDEF +150, HP +600
Boosts Magical Defense)

Slot 5: Sage's Sanctuary (HP +900, PDEF +150, MDEF +150
Resurrect on the spot)

Slot 6: Immovable - Sky Dome (PATK +80, PDEF +150, CDR +10%

Build Logic:
• Start with a defensive item for lane trading. Second item should add HP or dual resists for teamfight survivability.
• Adjust based on enemy damage types — don't autopilot the same build every game.
• If you get an early lead, slotting one semi-damage item (e.g. Shadow Ripper) accelerates your snowball.

Recommended Arcana: Lvl 5: Inheritance, Lvl 5: Hunt, Lvl 5: Void

Summoner Spell: Flash

Flash enables aggressive engages. Execute can finish off fed carries after your initial combo. Choose based on draft.

Standard Combos:
• Standard trade (Clash Lane skirmish or objective fight)
Impaling Thrust → Souleater → Tremble, Mortals → weave basic attacks

Lane Fundamentals:
• Clash lane is a 1v1 island. The golden rule: survive first, pressure second. Not dying is way more valuable than getting a solo kill.
• Always track the enemy jungler on the minimap. When they're botside, you can play up. When they're MIA, play near your tower.
• Wave management: ahead → slow push into enemy tower then roam. Behind → freeze near your tower and farm safely.

Level 4 Powerspike:
• Most clash laners get a massive power spike at level 4 with their ultimate. This is your first real opportunity to trade aggressively or look for a solo kill.
• If you have TP, watch bot lane for opportunities. A well-timed TP can turn a losing 2v2 into a winning 3v2.

Mid-Game Side Laning:
• After taking T1 tower, your job splits between pushing side waves and joining fights. Push wave → check minimap → decide.
• While split pushing, if you can't see 3+ enemies on the map, they're probably coming for you. Retreat.
• Teamfights generally take priority over split pushing, but if you group without pushing your wave first and lose the fight, you lose towers too.

Engage Responsibilities:
• You're usually the primary engage. Before going in, check: 1) teammates are in range to follow 2) enemy key cooldowns are down 3) you have your ultimate.
• Don't dive as soon as you see an enemy. Wait for the carry to misposition — one step too far forward is your engage window.
• After engaging, watch for the enemy assassin. Turning around to CC them when they dive your backline is often more valuable than chasing the enemy carry.

Peel vs Dive Decision:
• Your marksman is fed → stay back and peel. Stand between them and the enemy assassin.
• Your assassin/mage is fed → engage hard, eat cooldowns, let your carries free-fire.
• Whichever side has the gold lead is the side you play around. There's no one-size-fits-all — adapt to the game state.

Lu Bu struggles against: Han Xin, Lam, Pei
When facing these champions:
• Play passive in lane. Surviving > trading.
• Call your jungler for help — don't try to 1v1 a counter matchup.
• Adjust build toward defense. Staying alive is more valuable than an extra damage item.

Lu Bu counters: Heino, Daji, Luna
Against these champions:
• Play aggressive. Deny them farm and force them out of lane.
• Use your matchup advantage to create a lead, then roam and spread it.
• In draft, Lu Bu is a strong counter-pick if the enemy locks one of these early.

Lu Bu is a solid, consistent pick. Not the best in class, but mastery beats meta.

Climbing Advice:
• One-tricking Lu Bu is better than constantly switching to "meta" picks you're less comfortable on.
• Be willing to flex off Lu Bu if the enemy drafts hard counters.
